Asbestos Reinspection Surveys

An asbestos reinspection survey is required if you have already had Asbestos Surveys conducted you should have key information available such as a Material Hazard Assessment, which provides a basic indication of how liable an asbestos-containing material (ACM) is to release airborne fibre.

It is then up to the duty holder to determine the specific risk that each ACM poses based on the level of occupation in the area where it was found, and then to produce an Asbestos Management Plan.

Recommendations will be made by the qualified surveyor. If any products are seen to have suffered from any damage since the original report, they will advise on the process moving forward i.e. mange, and maintain, encapsulation or removal.

An asbestos reinspection survey is an essential step for businesses and homeowners to keep their properties safe.

As asbestos degrades over time, it can become loose and airborne, causing serious health risks like asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma. By conducting an asbestos reinspection survey, the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) can be identified, potential hazards can be identified and addressed before they arise, and validating safe asbestos management practices through asbestos risk mitigations.

With so much at stake when it comes to asbestos exposure, having a professional asbestos reinspection survey done on a regular basis is vital for keeping people safe.

According to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, asbestos re-inspections should be carried out every 6-12 months, depending on the asbestos survey report.

If your asbestos-containing materials are determined to be high risk, re-inspection may be required more frequently to ensure the risk is properly managed, as well as reviewing risk assessments and control measures.

An annual re-inspection must be conducted for properties that have been inspected for asbestos in accordance with The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAP) 2012.

There is no legal requirement to conduct an asbestos re-inspection. However, Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 states that all non-domestic premises must take appropriate measures to “manager asbestos”.

The Approved Code of Practice for The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 states:

“As a minimum, the management plan, including records and drawings, should be reviewed every 12 months.”

It is recommended that an asbestos re-inspection be conducted on an annual basis at a minimum.
